Delicious Freeze-Dried Treats: Orijen

We received a package of Orijen Original Freeze-Dried Cat treats from chewy.com to review this month.
Brulee waiting for Mom Paula to open the Orijen Original Cat Treats.

Our favorite treats lately are the various varieties of freeze-dried treats.  We'd heard a lot about the Orijen cat products and were pleased to receive the bag of Original Flavor from chewy.com this month.  The Orijen Original Freeze-Dried Cat Treats feature cage-free chicken and turkey along with wild-caught flounder from North Vancouver Island.  Each of these ingredients is delivered from local sources in fresh Whole Prey ratios so cats can be indulged and nourished at the same time.  The Orijen treats are made without cooking or preservatives and are gently freeze-dried to lock in "life-giving" goodness and flavors of fresh and regional ingredients.  Just look at the listed ingredients of the Original Flavor:  boneless chicken, boneless turkey, chicken liver, and boneless flounder.
Truffle and Brulee's patience is running out and decide to take matters into their own paws.

The Orijen Freeze-Dried Treats are available in five different flavors.  As much as we like the Original flavor, we're sure we'd love the other four flavors.  The Orijen Freeze-Dried Treats are currently on sale at chewy.com and the bags contain approximately 100 treats.  The Orijen treats are GMO free, grain-free, and contain no corn, wheat, or soy.
Truffle is thrilled to finally get a taste of the Orijen Original Freeze-Dried Cat Treats

We want to remind everyone of how wonderful it is to order cat products from chewy.com.  They have extra quick delivery (most items arrive within 2-3 days), excellent and friendly customer service, and a wide variety of almost any brand/flavor of cat food and treats you could want.
Even Brulee loves the Orijen Original Freeze-Dried Cat Treats

Black Friday

It's what Friday?!?  I don't care what kind of sales you can get, wake me up when it's over!!!
How dare you take a photo of me looking like this!!!!

Mom Paula - I don't usually post such unflattering photos of my beautiful girls, but I couldn't resist this one for Black Friday.  Brulee had just awakened from a nap in her little cat tree and she had "bed head" floof and I thought it was a perfect photo for the crazy people who get out of bed before the crack of dawn to shop.

Resting Places in the Office

Truffle claimed her spot in front of the computer a long time ago, so poor little Brulee was always left to rest on the floor when Mom Paula was working.  That changed a few weeks ago when Mom Paula had a great coupon from PetSmart and bought a single level cat tree to put beside the desk chair.  Brulee loves it and now rests beside Mom Paula when she's working!  We have Mom Paula so trained!

#ShedHappens with Baby Persians

I've grown up with pets my entire life (50+ years).  I've had turtles, birds, fish, dogs, and cats.  I honestly don't remember a lot of preparation for a new pet except for buying supplies and food.  My dogs always lived outdoors back in the '60s, so there wasn't a lot of concern about the problems of cleaning with an indoor pet.  I adopted my first cat back in the '70s and she was my first "indoor only" pet.  A broom was all I needed to clean up litter and food on the floor.  Muff had a thick fur coat, but it didn't shed much.  Muff lived to be 19 years old before going to the bridge.

The second cat who came to live with me was in 1995.  Sweet Praline was a baby Persian and boy could she make a mess.  I'd never had a cat who required regular grooming and who could make a mess with her flat little face.  Once again, I used a broom and dust pan to clean up the cat litter, kibble, and fur.  I began to experience the "challenges" of cleaning up with being owned by a Persian with all of the fur.

I lost Sweet Praline to cancer in 2011.  It had been 16 years since I'd had a kitten and had forgotten all of the challenges with bringing a new little fur child into my home again.  By now, the Internet was going strong with all of the social media outlets available to let us know how to prepare for a new kitten.  Even though I'd had two cats previously, I felt like it was the first time ever when I brought Truffle and Brulee into my home in 2011.  Truffle and Brulee are two silver shaded Persians, who have a cottony, soft fur that goes everywhere.  I remember purchasing special food, bedding, toys, scratchers, etc. to make their home special.  I researched everything I could to help me have a safe, secure, and happy home for my fur babies.
Baby Truffle bathing Baby Brulee
Truffle was a little older than Brulee and began mothering her immediately.  Don't they look so happy?

I've never thought about messes in the house being a deterrent to bringing in that special fur child, but 75% of people who don't have a pet agree that concerns about pet-related messes could prevent them from getting a pet.  Since Truffle and Brulee have that cottony-soft fur, it can be a problem keeping the house clean, especially when people come over for a visit.  Their fur is in every corner of the house and can be difficult to clean up.  Swiffer® has numerous products to help pick up pet fur.

I want other people to know the joys of being owned by that special fur child and am happy to announce that Swiffer® and Bark & Co. want to help more children experience that special love through pet adoption and allow parents more time to play than clean up pet-related messes. Barkbox and Swiffer are teaming up to make sure cleaning concerns are never an obstacle when bringing your child's first pet.  They are partnering with participating shelters to provide a 10,000 Welcome Home kits packed with goodies and cleaning supplies to new pup parents who adopt through December.  Swiffer is also making a $50,000 donation to select shelters to support their needs this holiday season.  You can see if your local shelter is participating by visiting http://swiffer.barkbox.com

On November 12, 2015, Actor Scott Foley joined forces with Swiffer in New York City to launch Swiffer's "Welcome Home" child's first pet campaign.  Foley serves as Swiffer campaign ambassador to help spread the word that clean concerns should never be an obstacle to pet adoption.  New pet owners are encouraged to share a photo of their new fur-ever family and everything in their Welcome Home Kit box with @Swiffer and @BarkBox to show how they are ready for when #ShedHappens.

We're going to pay it forward by giving a special "Welcome Home" box from Swiffer and BarkBox to a woofie friend of ours and will share photos, a video, and tips for bringing home that special dog on a future post.  In the meantime, Mom Paula is using the Swiffer products to clean up all of our fur around the house.

#PetGrass Whisker Greens Brings the Great Outdoors Inside

Brulee sitting behind three containers of Whisker Greens #PetGrass

We are indoor-only kitties, so our floofy paws have never touched the cool, green grass outside. We've heard of the nutritional and digestive advantages of cat grass for kitties, but we'll never get the chance to venture into the great outdoors to eat grass.  Mom Paula tried to grow some grass from seeds, but she is known to have a "brown thumb" and the grass didn't survive too long.  We were delighted to hear about Pet Grass® Whisker Greens™ which arrives to your door fresh and already grown.
Brulee and Truffle demonstrating how Whisker Greens is packaged. #PetGrass
Whisker Greens arrive in an airtight sealed plastic bag with three individual cardboard sleeves.

The Pet Grass Whisker Greens are purrfect for humans who have a brown thumb like Mom Paula, Whisker Greens is certified organic wheat grass that is grown from 100% certified organic seed that is planted carefully by hand in real soil.  The seeded pots are rotated in the greenhouses in order to receive just the right amounts of water and sunlight.  The Whisker Greens are shipped to your home in an airtight plastic bag.  The wheat grass can stay in your refrigerator for up to 2 weeks in order to maintain it's freshness.  Whisker Greens are full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to help us kitties stay healthy and beautiful.

Playing in the Rare Sunshine

We've actually had some sunny days lately, even if there is a chill in the air.  Since the time change, it's rare for Mom Paula to get home before the sun goes down, so we take advantage of having her home on the weekends.  Truffle appears to finally be feeling better and that makes Mom Paula happy!

Busy Week

Mom Paula has a really busy week this week at work and we have some sponsored posts to do also. For today's Monday post, we're flashing back to November 2011 when we were little bitty kittens.  Don't worry, the plant isn't real, it's silk!

Secret Paws

We hope to have everyone matched up for Secret Paws by the end of the week.  This will give everyone time to shop during all of the specials for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Mom Paula said she won't get around to matching up until at least tomorrow or Tuesday night, so if you haven't sent us your information, please do it ASAP.  You can click on the graphic on our sidebar to get information.

Truffle hopes she doesn't have to go back to the vet again any time soon.  She appears to be feeling a little better, but she's a little tired of Mom Paula checking her "back side" every time she turns around.

Truffle's Tummy

Truffle still has a little bit of a tummy ache.  She doesn't have diarrhea, but her stools are a little soft.  She's eating and drinking water, but she's just not quite herself.  If she's not any better this afternoon, she'll probably go back to the vet.

Back to the Vet

Mom Paula got back from BarkWorld this weekend and discovered that Truffle had an upset tummy.  Truffle had to get a couple of "butt baths" and then she was throwing up some hairballs.  When this happened both Saturday night and Monday night, Mom Paula said it was off to the vet again (for both of us!)
Truffle and Brulee sharing the warm blanket on the examination table

Brulee was feeling fine but she had to go along with Truffle so they would have the same smells on them.  When we were taken in the examination room (set up for cats), there was a warm blanket on the examination table.  Mom Paula put Truffle up there first for the vet tech  to take her temperature and to be weighed.  Once the vet tech was finished (she wasn't in a very good mood, but that's another story) and left, Mom Paula let Brulee get on the examination table.  Usually Brulee goes straight to the scale and rests while Truffle is examined, but she decided she liked the warm blanket and climbed beside Truffle on the table.  We don't usually rest to close to each other, but that blanket was nice and warm.
Side by side on the examination table

The new vet, Dr. Hansche, who'd seen us last week was on call.  He walked in the door and immediately had a smile on his face and walked over to us and begin cuddling with us.  Mom Paula told him we were much better with our URI, but was concerned about Truffle's upset tummy.  Mom Paula told Dr. Hansche that she needed to move Brulee out of the way so he could examine Truffle, and his words were "I'm not finished cuddling yet."

Dr. Hansche from Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital with Truffle and Brulee

Dr. Hansche examined Truffle and said he didn't feel any mass and her abdomen didn't appear to hurt when he pressed on it.  He said she probably had a little bit of fur she was trying to get rid of and when Mom Paula mentioned that she'd recently traveled to Colorado and Georgia, Dr. Hansche asked her if she traveled much.  When Mom Paula said yet, he responded that Truffle could be experiencing a little separation anxiety.  He told Mom Paula to watch her the next couple of days, but that she should be fine.  He paused a moment to pose with Truffle and Brulee prior to putting them in their PTUs.  His comment was "I just love these two cats."  We think we like him too.

Truffle appears to be feeling better.  Mom Paula is going to start giving her some calming treats when she has to travel to see if that helps.

Good Enough for a Kitty

Mom Paula seems to be in a permanent fog lately!  Last week, she got some food for us and was taking photos while we were eating (why do humans do this?) and didn't realize until after she edited photos, threw away the container, and was researching the food, that she'd just fed us dog food!!!  It didn't seem to phase us, we ate it anyway!  We're going to donate the rest of the case (yes, she has a case) to our woofie cousin, Smokey, who is an Australian Shepherd who lives with Mom Paula's sister.

The deadline for submitting your names for participation in Secret Paws was this weekend.  However, Mom Paula probably won't get around to matching up names until this weekend.  If you'd still like to participate, please visit http://secretpaws2015.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html and send your information to us at sweetpurrfections@sc.rr.com by this Thursday, November 12.  We'd love to have as many of you as possible participating this year.
